Nooks and crannies – a drawing workshop based on a contemporary and surrounding world perspective

This project was developed by tutors at Lindberg Skola in Varberg and artist Jonatan Knut, where the purpose was for the pupils to meet a professionally active artist and gain an understanding of how an artist works. The pupils would also be discovering their surrounding neighbourhood, their school and the wider world.

In this project, pupils from pre-school (F-klass) up to year 2 that worked intensely for a full day and the hours were split into three sections. During one of these, the pupils got to draw together with Jonathan, during another the pupils were out walking and had a discovery orienteering session with a teacher and in the third time slot, they worked with a tutor on image analysis exercise.

During the workshop with Jonatan Knut, the children practised drawing off the top of their head during a certain time pressure, large format and on the floor, no colourpaint, from different angles and at the same time, they got to see firsthand Jonatan Knut’s personal methods. The pupils rotated around their own drawing and were only allowed to sketch what they had in front of them. After a while, they swapped sides and consequently also motif.
