Mode: Yta med djup – Utställningar/Exhibitions 2021
Under 2021 – på tretton platser och under olika utställningsperioder – utforskas mode i Halland. Mode ställs ut som kläder, textilkonst, fotografi, teckning, keramik och kulturhistoria; som dåtid och nutid; som svenskt och internationellt. De olika platserna utgår från sina respektive uppdrag och olika specialkompetenser, men möts i ett gemensamt intresse för mode.
In 2021, across thirteen different locations and various exhibition periods, we will explore fashion in the county of Halland. Fashion that will be exhibited as clothes, textile art, photography, drawings, ceramics and cultural history; from yesteryears and the present era; both Swedish and international. Each location will base their exhibition on their specific operations, expertise and unique competencies, but their mutual interest in fashion ties them all together.
Tjolöholms slott
Queen Victoria – Dressed to Rule an Empire

Storslaget kungligt 1800-talsmode visas på Tjolöholms Slott 2021. Följ med på en odyssé genom det viktorianska Storbritannien, från krinolin till kröningsdräkt. Drottning Victoria och hennes prins Albert skildras från majestätiska festligheter till familjens privata sfär, parallellt med historien om Tjolöholmsfamiljen Dicksons resa från Storbritannien till Göteborg.
Queen Victoria – Dressed to Rule an Empire
Grand, royal fashion from the 19th century will be displayed at Tjolöholm Castle throughout 2021. Come and join us on an odyssey that takes us through Victorian Britain, from crinolines to coronation robes. Queen Victoria and her Prince Albert are portrayed in different settings; everything from majestic festivities to private family gatherings. At the same time, you are introduced to the story of the Dicksons of Tjolöholm Castle and their journey from Great Britain to Gothenburg.

En utställningssal tar form efter en walk-in-closet när vi visar det mest flärdfulla vi hittat i Hallands Konstmuseums samling. Kläder, accessoarer och attiraljer, huvudsakligen från 1900-talets första hälft, som forna hallänningar har använt för att sätta guldkant på tillvaron. Viljan att göra sig fin är en allmänmänsklig drivkraft, då som nu.
To covet – Some eye-catching items from our collections
One of our halls has been done up like a walk-in closet, where we show off the most eye-catching, luxurious items we have found in our collections at Halland Art Museum. Clothes, accessories and paraphernalia, mainly from the first part of the 20th century, which have been used by people in Halland county to bring a little bit of luxury to their life. The desire to make oneself pretty is a universal driving force, just as much back in the day as it is now.

Formandet av en personlig identitet sker genom ständig dialog mellan individen och hennes omgivning. Det är en pågående process, grundad i avvägningen mellan det socialt accepterade och det som sticker ut. Kläder uttrycker på samma gång både en persons individuella särdrag och viljan att ingå i en större gemenskap. I denna grupputställning gestaltas olika aspekter av förhållandet mellan jaget och den klädda kroppen.
Constructing a self
Shaping a personal identity involves a continuous dialogue between the individual and their surroundings. It is an ongoing process, based on the balance between the socially accepted and what sticks out. Clothes on one’s body express both a person’s unique features as well as the will to belong to a bigger community. In this collection, various aspects of the relationship between the self and the clad body will be interpreted and displayed.

Utställningen Konstruerad detalj tar sin utgångspunkt i textila konstruktioner, detaljer av kläder, och hur dessa gestaltar kropp och definierar och befäster kön och könstillhörighet. Utställningen rymmer textila installationer, objekt och måleri. Maja Gunn är professor på HDK-Valand och arbetar gränsöverskridande med konst, konsthantverk och design, med särskilt intresse för konstnärlig gestaltning av kroppsliga erfarenheter av kläder i relation till genus och sexualitet.
Maja Gunn – Constructed detail
This exhibition “Constructed detail” is based on textile constructions, clothing details and how these represent the body as well as defines and entrenches gender and gender affinity. The exhibition incorporates textile installations, objects and paintings. Maja Gunn is a professor at HDK Valand and has a multidisciplinary approach to art, handicrafts and design and is specifically interested in artistic interpretations of physical experiences of clothes in relation to gender and sexuality.

Josefin Lindskog – Ser du mig nu

I Josefin Lindskogs utställning möts vi av stora blyertsteckningar och skulpturala objekt. Med en självbiografisk utgångspunkt tecknar hon kroppar som delvis är dolda av tyger. Lindskog arbetar med kläder i skulpturala objekt, i väggfasta verk och installationer, som ett sätt att bearbeta frågor om kaos, kontroll, moderskap och makt.
Josefin Lindskog – Can you see me now
In Josefin Lindskog’s exhibition, we get to encounter large graphite sketches and sculptural objects. With an autobiographical starting point, she draws bodies that are partially clad in fabric. Lindskog works with clothes in sculptural objects, wall-mounted works of art and installations, as a way to process topics such as chaos, control, motherhood and power.

Haute Papier – Bea Szenfeld, Stina Wirsén

I Rikssalen visas Bea Szenfelds spektakulära tredimensionella pappersplagg och Stina Wirséns lustfyllda bildvärld i akvarell och bläck på papper. I gränslandet mellan konst och mode möts de båda konstnärerna i en ömsesidig förkärlek för det analoga, för handens arbete och för det gemensamma arbetsmaterialet, pappret. De rör sig fritt i gränslandet mellan design och konst och öppnar upp för nya och mer inkluderande sätt att skapa.
Bea Szenfeld, Stina Wirsén – Haute Papier
In Rikssalen Hall, Bea Szenfeld’s spectacular three-dimensional paper garments are on display and so is Stina Wirsén’s cheerful world of images with watercolours and ink on paper. In the borderlands between art and fashion, the two artists meet in a mutual penchant for the analogue, for the work done by hand and for the material they both use, namely paper. They move freely within the borderlands of design and art and fling the doors open to new, more including ways of being creative.

In her textile works of art and grand, hovering sculptures, fashion designer and textile artist Diana Orving creates evocative choreography. Inspired by the intersection between dance and fashion, she conveys a sensation of movement and body, where the choice of materials used play a crucial role.

Tre fotografer och tre unika, konstnärliga insatser som på olika sätt förhåller sig till mode. Malin Griffiths färgstarka fotografier utforskar frågor om identitet, medan Denise Grünsteins suggestiva världar uppvisar referenser till modets alltmer utvidgade estetik. Irving Penns modernistiska och formstarka verk är välkända, men utställningen rymmer också berättelsen om Penns besök i Steninge, Halmstad.
Fashion photography – Malin Griffiths, Denise Grünstein, Irving Penn
Three photographers and three unique, artistic contributions that in their own, individual way relate to fashion. Malin Griffiths’ colourful photos explore issues like identity, while Denise Grünstein’s evocative worlds demonstrate references to an ever-broadened aesthetics of fashion. Irving Penn’s modernistic, strong works of art are renowned, but the exhibition also includes the story of Penn’s visit to Steninge, outside the town of Halmstad.

Rock, kjol och hatt – Kläder i bonadsmålningarnas värld

Genom bonadsmålarnas motiv framträder en stiliserad men detaljrik modebild. I utställningen visas motiv från 1700–1900-talen, där inspiration hämtats från den lokala folkdräkten. Särskild fokus är på färg och form, men även på enskilda plagg och accessoarer som rock, kjol och hatt. Genom att lyfta fram modet i bonadsmålningar betraktas både mode som fenomen och bonadsmålningarna som tradition på ett nytt sätt.
Coat, skirt and hat – Clothes in the world of tapestries
Through the motifs of tapestries, a stylized, but detailed view of fashion emerges. In this exhibition, we will show you motifs from the 1700s through to the 1900s, where inspiration has been drawn from the local folk costume (traditional garments). Special attention has been paid to colours and designs, but also to individual garments and accessories such as coat, skirt and hat. When fashion is highlighted like this in the tapestries, fashion is viewed as a type of phenomenon and the tapestries are seen as traditional customs in a whole new way.

This individual exhibition with Caroline Bonaldi’s works of art incorporates drawings and sculptural works that can be seen as a collage of what a garment and a suit can tell us. By using humour and playing with time, she explores and questions the norms, standards and social rules we face and relate to every single day.

På bara en mansålder genomgick Sverige en radikal förändring – från att för tvåhundra år sedan ha varit ett av de fattigaste länderna i Europa blev landet ett av världens mest välmående. Utvecklingen från bondesamhälle till modern nation avspeglades inte minst i befolkningens skiftande relation till kläder och mode. Förändringen sammanföll med fotografiets utveckling, och i denna utställning visas exempel från halländska fotografer i ateljé och i miljö.
The modern Hallander is born
Two hundred years ago, Sweden was one of the poorest countries in Europe. One generation later, everything had changed and the country was one of the most prosperous. The transformation from a farming community to a modern nation was reflected, not least in the Swedes’ changing relation to clothes and fashion. The transformation coincided with the development of photography and in this particular exhibition, we have put together a selection of images by photographers from the county of Halland. Both from their studio work and photos taken on site.

Hantverk, ursprung och tillhörighet är ord som alla förknippas med folkdräkten. Men begreppen ringar också in en uppsättning regler om hur en dräkt får se ut och bäras i förhållande till plats och person. I denna grupputställning, producerad av Rian designmuseum, visas hur dräkten och folkdräkten, tolkas i en ständigt föränderlig värld där gamla regler omprövas och nya tillkommer.
Constructing a costume
Handicrafts, origin and a sense of belonging – words that are all associated with the traditional folk costume, but these concepts also pinpoint a set of rules of what a costume is allowed to look like and where, when and by whom it is allowed to be worn. In this group exhibition produced by Rian Design Museum, the dress and the folk costume will be displayed in a way that specifically depicts how clothing is interpreted in an ever-changing world, where old rules are reviewed and new ones are added.

Konstnären Hilda Fürst använder sig av vardagliga föremål, som skor, kläder och möbler. När funktion och ursprunglig innebörd ställs åt sidan växer lekfulla och överraskande skulpturala former fram. Med kroppen som utgångspunkt skapas en installation där maktsymboler förvrängs och deformeras.

Artist Hilda Fürst uses everyday items such as shoes, clothes and furniture in her works. When a function and original context are pushed aside, playful and surprising, sculptural shapes start to emerge. With the body as a starting point, she creates an installation where symbols of power are distorted and deformed.
